Three local teams make Champion of Champions finals


Five Sutherland Shire teams played their semi-finals of soccer’s champion of champions on last Sunday October 21. The Champion of Champions is played between the top teams in each grade from the various associations across NSW. The Shire teams were successful in 3 out of 5 clashes.

In the under 10s, the Miranda Magpies could not match the Camden Tigers to lose 4 nil. The Shire’s champion 15s, the Menai Hawks took on Mt Annan and won a tight game 1 nil. In the 17s Sylvania Heights lost to WPH/Cherrybrook 5 - 3. In the semi-final involving the Shire’s under 21champions, Lilli Pilli defeated WPH/Cherrybrook 4 nil. In the All Age Women North Sutherland were too strong for Ourimbah University 5 - 2

The finals will be played at Soccer NSW Valentine Park Complex, Glenwood on Sunday, October 28. The draw for local teams in the finals is:

Under 15: Menai Hawks v East Gosford at Valentine Pk 1, beginning at 10.30am
Under 21: Lilli Pilli v Chatswood Rangers at Valentine Pk 1, beginning at 3pm
All Age Women: North Sutherland v Brookvale at Valentine Pk 2, beginning at 2.30pm.

Clubs share top spots in local junior cricket


Top spots are shared around the clubs after two completed rounds of the Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association’s 2007-08 season. Undefeated leaders in the 16As are Caringbah and St Patricks, while in the 16Bs Illawong Menai and Como Jannali are on top with two wins each. In the 16Cs Engadine is the only undefeated team.

In the 14As, the top division of the under 14s, the undefeated St Patricks and Illawong Menai teams share the lead. In the 12As St Patrick’s is on top, while Engadine is the only team with two wins in the 10As.

Under 10 Cricket Development Squad Trial

Sutherland Shire Junior Cricket Association will hold a selection trial for the Under 10 Development squad at Anzac Oval, Engadine, on Sunday 28th October. The squad starts on Sunday 11th November.

Junior basketball trials


If you want to see local basketball talent in action check out the representative trials at Sutherland Basketball Stadium.
Sutherland Basketball Association has announced the dates for its representative squad trials. They are:
Under 18s: Saturday 3 November, 12.30pm – 2.30pm; Sunday 11 November, 9am – 11am; Saturday 8 December, 12 – 2pm.
Under 16s: Saturday 3 November, 2.30pm – 4.30pm; Saturday 10 November, time to be confirmed; Saturday 8 December 2pm – 4pm
Under 14s: Sunday 4 November, 11am – 1pm; Saturday 10 November, 2pm – 4pm; Sunday 9 December, 8.30am – 10.30am
Under 12s: Sunday 4 November, 9am – 11am; Sunday 11 November, 2pm – 4pm; Sunday 9 December, 1pm – 3pm
