Three more graduate from SSHED

Business accelerator continues to be a success

Sutherland Shire Council’s SSHED business accelerator continues to be a success for local small business with three more businesses graduating from the program.  The graduations create three more office spaces to be available later this month.

SSHED offer first class offices with computers, phone systems and broadband internet access. The program provides complete business guidance and support. Fourteen companies have now graduated from the program creating more than 120 jobs.

The latest graduates have outgrown their current office space at SSHED and need to move into larger premises to ensure continued growth and the creation of more jobs.

For further details on the office space and SSHED, please phone 9545 7777.

Shire trade school to go ahead

A trade school located in the Sutherland Shire, promised as part of the state government’s election campaign, will go ahead in 2009.

James Cook Boys High School and Moorefield Girls High School will offer electro-technology and nursing studies respectively from 2008, with the schools in the Shire offering courses in the following year.

Students at James Cook High School and Moorefield Girls High School will be able to do the standard HSC courses while studying their trade courses at nearby St.George TAFE and St George Hospital.

The Shire trade school will receive funding to begin work and will be established to train students in the hospitality industries. Gymea and Loftus TAFE campuses will be the venues for the trade school, operating in a similar manner to St George TAFE and St George Hospital arrangements.

Youth Off The Streets heading to China

Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets Program will be heading to China in 2008, to undertake an exciting project – a walk on the Great Wall of China.

Father Riley began some of his youth work at Boy’s Town Engadine before founding the Youth Off The Streets Program. Youth Off the Streets has been a very successful program helping disadvantaged youth overcome the difficulties of learning, schooling, social acceptance and family dynamics.

The nine-day trip to China will include five days of actual trekking along the Great Wall, and will include visits to the local villages. Each walker has to raise about $3,500 of the $5,900 required.

Some of the walkers are local residents offering their services to assist those youths who are fortunate to be going. Any donations, sponsorship or offerings are greatly appreciated
