Seeing Stars
by Patricia Shepherd

For the week beginning 2 December

The Astrological Houses (Part 1)

SAGITTARIUS

A build up of tension over the next couple of weeks has you on your toes. Should I or shouldn’t I. As long as you are not taking the easiest option or shirking your responsibilities you should.

CAPRICORN

The Venus Jupiter conjunction in your sign this week ensures that any professional relationships whether current or new get off to a good start. Everyone is feeling optimistic which bodes well.

AQUARIUS

Uranus, your ruler moves out of its yearly retrograde motion so if you have been experiencing a few months of discontent and retroflection it is time to realign yourself and assimilate the self-truths gained.

PISCES

You have perhaps felt yourself stagnating over the past few months and semi resigned yourself to the fact. If you are honest the answer has always been available and just needs a more objective approach.

ARIES

Your ideas are coming thick and fast and as yet may not have any practical application. This in no way should stop the flow of inspiration, as today’s thoughts become tomorrow’s action.

TAURUS

Never one to over-estimate yourself, you will empress others not only with the self-control you exhibit but also with the sense of responsibility you bring to all your relationships.

GEMINI

If you are scattering your energies to the winds this week it is going to cause conflict in your relationship arena so you would do well to ask yourself just what it is you are trying to avoid or evade. You are not fooling anyone.

CANCER

Your sense of duty has had you tied down over the past few days so now it is time to break out and reclaim some time for yourself otherwise the weekend may see you feeling hard done by.

LEO

A changing situation places you in the position of observer. This may put you in a position of readiness to come to the aid of others or it fuels those rebellious urges that have you breaking free.

VIRGO

If your relationships have been coming under review over the past few months you are now in a far better position to reform your attitudes and to deal with those unresolved issues that lingered.

LIBRA

This can be a very productive week for our Librans as Venus, Jupiter and Saturn ensure that the light side of Venus gains self-discipline enabling you to work constructively with any opportunity that arises.

SCORPIO

Not normally known to act on a whim you have a storehouse of mental and physical energy that needs to be expressed. This could make you a little careless or rash with money this week.

THE ASTROLOGICAL HOUSES (Part 1)

The word horoscope comes from the Greek word ‘horoscopus’, meaning ‘consideration of the hour’ and can therefore be said to be a ‘time-map’. A picture of the heavens as it appeared at our place and time of birth, the chart symbolically portrays our own unique reality, innate pattern and inner design.

Planets, signs and houses are the three basic ingredients that make up a horoscope with the planets representing particular psychological drives, the signs a particular attitude and the houses determines the area of life. We can simplify this by saying the planets show WHAT is happening, the signs HOW it is happening, and the houses WHERE it is happening.

When talking about the houses we need to remember we are dealing with two kinds of movement – that of the Earth and other planets around the Sun, and also the movement of the Earth on its axis. Originally the houses were periods of time called ‘watches’ which were based on the Sun’s movement as it rose, passed overhead and set. Each watch covered six hours of time, marking sunrise, noon, sunset and midnight.

Since the time of the Renaissance, astrologers have devised several methods of dividing those watches into the twelve houses of the horoscope and developed a correspondence between various types of human activity and the different watches or houses. This then gave a frame of reference without which astrologers cannot bring the significance of celestial events down to Earth.

Sun sign and therefore a very general astrology was modified for the masses and used throughout the media, uses a person’s Sun sign and places it always in the first house with the movement of the planets, then transiting through the other houses. For example, if you were born under the sign of Cancer then Leo would always be on your second house cusp. If a Sagittarian then Capricorn would always be on your second house cusp and currently you would have the Sun, Mercury and Mars in your first house.
