Sharks 13s and 14s top ladders after beating Wolves
In the “local derby” the Wollongong Wolves took on the Sutherland Shire Sharks last weekend in the Premier Youth League soccer. In the 18s the Wolves continued their good run with a 3 nil win over the bottom placed Sharks. The Wolves are now 4th on the ladder.
In the 16s the lower placed Sharks put up a real fight against the Wolves to finish with a 2 all draw. The Wolves are now 7th on the ladder. In the 15s the Wolves had a hard fought 3-2 victory over the Sharks. With this victory the Wolves sit on top of the 13 team ladder while the Sharks are ninth.
In the 14s the top of the table Sharks were too strong for the 11th placed Wolves winning 3-1. In the 13s the result again reflected relative positions on the table with top team Sharks easily accounting for the 11th placed Wolves. Full results were:
Under 18: Wolves 3 Sharks nil
Under 16: Wolves 2 Sharks 2
Under 15: Wolves 3 Sharks 2
Under 14: Sharks 3 Wolves 1
Under 13: Sharks 4 Wolves 1 Sharks men round up Mustangs in Basketball
Last weekend, the Sutherland Sharks Waratah Australian Basketball League teams travelled to Maitland to take on the Mustangs.
In the men’s game the Sharks were too strong for the locals winning by 96 to 83. Top point scorers for the Sharks were Blake Hendricks (22), Brendon Gleeson (13), Owen Johnson (11), B J Carter (10) and Dave Morris (10). For the Maitland Mustangs, Andrew Mortimore (24) dominated the scoring followed by Butch Hays (18), Joshua Clifford (16) and Joel Boyle (14). The Sharks now lie in 5th spot.
The Sharks women battled hard to break their losing streak but in the end the 5th placed Mustangs prevailed by 71 – 61. Top scorers for the Sharks were Jacki Nicholson (18), Marianna Tolo (17), Melinda Bartlett (9) and Billie Stevens (9). For the Mustangs Michaela Domkins (19) dominated the scoring followed by Haylee McCrohon and Charlotte Bull who both scored 14 points. The Sharks lie in 10th position in the 11 team competition.
Next week’s games are against the North Bears at Sutherland Basketball Stadium on Saturday 17 May. The women’s game begins at 5pm while men’s game between the 5th placed Sharks and Bears in 4th tips off at 7pm. Bevan to give batting tips to coaches and players
Cricket NSW will be conducting a Batting Seminar with former Australian and NSW batsman Michael Bevan at the Power Education SCG Indoor Centre Auditorium, from 6.30 to 8 pm on Wednesday 28th May.
This is a tremendous opportunity for all coaches and any aspiring batsmen to learn from the greatest one day batsman in the world in his prime.
Michael will be discussing the key factors that made him the No 1 ranked one day player in the world and how coaches and players can adopt some of his ideas to improve their skills. The new challenges associated with 20/20 batting will also be discussed.

The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) is pleased to announce that the online Introductory Level Officiating General Principles course is now available on the ASC Learning Portal at https://learning.ausport.gov.au
The course is aimed at beginner level officials, and covers three modules of training; Self Management, Managing the Competition Environment and People Management. The course takes approximately four hours to complete, and there is assessment included within the course. The online course is available free of charge to Australian officials.
