Menai is last Sutherland Shire team in Champion of Champions
After three rounds the Menai Hawks under 15 team is the last Sutherland Shire team in soccer’s Champion of Champions competition.
The Champions of particular age groups from every Association (Metropolitan & Country) in NSW are pitted against each other in a knockout style competition to decide the ultimate Champion of Champions in each age group.
The results in round 3 for the teams still alive out of the original 11 teams from the Sutherland Shire Association were:
Under 12: Bangor 1 lost to Glossodia 3
Under 15: Menai Hawks 2 defeated Brookvale nil
Under 16: Lilli Pilli nil lost to Wakehurst 1
Under 21: Miranda Magpies 1 lost to Cranebrook UFC 2
The semi-finals of each competition are to be played on Sunday October 18. Menai Hawks under 15s will play Earlwood from 3pm at Crest ground.
Early centuries and “five fors” in Sutherland Shire junior cricket
The 2009/10 junior cricket season kicked off on Saturday September 12.
After the first two rounds and leading into the holiday break, there have been 9 century makers and four bowlers with 5 or more wicket in an innings.
St Patricks Ben Letton tops the batting honour board with 160 not out for his 16B team against DLS Seagulls in round 1. Other big centuries have been scored by Jackson Garrett (121) for Engadine 14E against Sylvania in round 2 and Beau Woodgate (115 not out) for Miranda 16D against Sylvania in Round 1.
Three other centuries were scored in round 1 – Kristian Pillai (105) for Gymea Bay 14D against Illawong Menai, Elliot Brookes (103) for St Patricks 10A against Como Jannali and Oliver Selby (101 not out) for Illawong Menai 14A against St Patrick’s.
Another three centuries were also scored in round 2 – Corey Wheeler (109) for Illawong Menai 14A against Como Jannali, Jonnie Martin (106) for Caringbah 14D against Gymea Bay and James Thomas (104 not out) for Bosco 16C against Gymea Bay.
Bowling honours overall so far are led by Jamie Brown who took 6 for 35 for Illawong Menai 16A against Caringbah in round 2. Three bowlers took 5 wickets in round 1 – Sam Howard (5 for 10) for Caringbah 8A1 against St Patricks, Declan Gilkes (5 for 13) for Caringbah 16C against Engadine and Boyd Seidl (5 for 21) for Sylvania 16D against Miranda.

Sutherland to host World Masters Games basketball in October
The World Masters Games is to take place in various venues around Sydney from October 10 to 18. Sutherland Shire is to host some of the basketball competitions.
